ACE COMBAT 5 INFORMATION CENTER
- known as "The Unsung War" in North America and Japan. Known as "Squadron Leader" in Europe. -

- Ace Combat 5 is the fifth release of the Ace Combat series on the Playstation 2. It is also the second Ace Combat game for the PS2. -

Plot:
2010; 15 years after the Belkan War. International peace is shattered as Yuktobania attacks its former ally Osea for no determinable reason. Now you and the elite pilots under your command, stationed at Sand Island Air Base, have been called up to pull the two superpowers out of the seemingly endless war.

Kill Gauge:
The kill gauge is an Ace Combat 5 only feature. It is seen in no other installment. The kill gauge is the primary way to unlock variants of any aircraft the player has already bought or unlocked. Another variant of a specific aircraft, if there is a variant, is only unlocked after its base aircraft has destroyed enough targets and filled a gauge for that aircraft. For example, upon filling the gauge for the F-14A Tomcat, the F-14B Bombcat will be unlocked. However, filling the kill gauge for the YF-23A Black Widow II will not unlock another aircraft since it does not have another variant/model.

Arcade Mode:
An arcade mode has been added. Unlike the Campaign mode, players must fly their fastest to destroy targets in order to keep their mission timers from running down to zero. The player can play as Mobius One during Operation Katina. This event takes place a year after the events in Ace Combat 04. For more information, see the "Operation Katina" article.

Wingman Commands:
Wingman Commands are first introduced in Ace Combat 5. This allows the player to assign tasks to their wingmen and change their orders during the flow of battle. The commands are given by pressing buttons on the directional pad (the arrows on the controller).

Up = Attack. Wingmen attack enemies in front of you.
Down = Cover. Wingmen attack enemies attacking you.
Left = Disperse. Wingmen spread formation and attack at their own will.
Right = Special Weapons. Activates special weapons for your wingmen. One press will activate them. Another will deactivate.

Additional Information:
-Namco's PROJECT ACES team created this installment.

-The game is set in the same universe as AC2-AC04

-AC5 comes in two languages: English and Japanese. Each has an option of subtitles in their own languages.
