Ace Style Gauge:

-The Ace Style Gauge is shown in the image above, in the bottom right corner.-
Ace Combat Zero utilizes a feature known as the Ace Style Gauge. The player's actions during a mission dictates where they fall on this Ace Style Gauge. Moral and ethical decisions will come into play as you eventually become one of the three types of Aces:
-Mercenary Ace: An Ace that lives for battle, money and glory. If you focus on going after defenseless targets, you will eventually be marked as this.
-Soldier Ace: An Ace that lives for his fellow soldiers, and his country. If you focus on the mission and balance aiding allies and destroying extra targets, you will be called a Soldier Ace.
-Knight Ace: An Ace that lives for pride, and honor. If you help out your allies and wingmen often and spare crippled planes or non-essential mission targets, you will gain this honorable status.
For more information, see our "Ace Style Gauge" article.
Wingman Command System:
The Wingman Control from AC5 has been used in this installment of the series as well. Unlike the Ace Combat 05 Wingman Command System, Ace Combat Zero's system allows the player to order their wingman to cover the player aircraft, attack targets the player is locked onto, use their special weapons or limit their special weapons usage, disperse to only engage air or ground targets or allow them to disperse to engage any target they choose to.
Boresight System:

-The circle in the middle of the screen is the Boresight activated-.
Now the player can engage targets manually with the new Boresight System. By pressing in on the right Analog Stick, any target placed within the targeting reticule (circle) will be automatically locked onto by the player's aircraft. This removes the player's need to cycle through various targets to get to their target of interest.
Assault Record Viewer:

The Assault Record Viewer is a database of information which is accessed by shooting down enemy Ace pilots. In the game, across various difficulties and Ace Styles, there are 169 Aces total, and each one the player shoots down has a distinct name, plane, record and history. Players can use the viewer to see these records as they continue to shoot down any ace pilots they encounter.
Two-Player vs. Mode:
The Versus Mode feature from Ace Combat 04 and the original 'Air Combat' is once again reintroduced to the series with seven game modes, allowing two players to test their skills against one another. While the ultimate goal of each mission is for each player to out score the other in anyway possible. For more information, see the ACZ Verses Mode article.
Return Line:
The Return Line from Ace Combat 04 has been reintroduced to the Ace Combat series to a limited degree. Though the Return Line is not available in most of the missions in Ace Combat Zero, larger missions do provide a Return Line in order to allow players to Resupply and change special weapons in the middle of a mission.
Special Aircraft Unlock Feature:
There are two unlockable planes from AC4 and AC5 in ACZ. By having saved data on your Memory Card from Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies, and Ace Combat 05: The Unsung War, Ace Combat Zero will unlock the two Original Aircraft that are unique to each game, the X-02 Wyvern and the ADF-01F Falken.
Other Information:
-All aircraft now have five paint schemes to choose from; some aircraft have six.
-ACZ can match the resolution of wide screen Televisions and also have higher quality for these screens. See a Wide Screen Example Image 1 and Example Image 2.
-Zero comes with three different control schemes. Zero, ACE 5 (A) and ACE 5 (
