Meh. The Tomcat (Bombcat) will always be special.

Agreed! I prefer the 'Cat to the Hornets any day (though I do like the Hornets as well). I'm just regurgitating the reason the Navy used as to why the Hornets succeeded the Tomcats. It's kind of sad, though. I really like Tomcats.

That and Grumman stopped making parts for them in the mid 90s.

I hope you guys know that the F-14 Tomcat can be recalled to service if needed, right?

We can still call in the 'Cats if we need to? I though the US didn't have many left...I guess we could start producing some, though...

Not without rebuilding the manufacturing facilities themselves, first.

Retired 'cats are being destroyed down at AMARC to keep spare parts from getting into Iranian hands. A sad end to a noble plane.

Yeah... we are not fans of the Iranians, I suppose. The military is a paranoid organism.

They're actually not being destroyed... they're mothballed so if they need to, they can recall the cat's to active service.

Like if we had a full-scale total war? I would like to see the Tomcat return to glory, but not exactly at that cost.

Still, it WOULD be pretty great to see American Tomcats take to the skies and start kicking tail again. There's no denying that.

Unfortunately, war has the distasteful side-effect of being, well, crappy. Ah, well.

By the load it carries in AC5, it's an attacker. But like the MiG-1.44, it's just a fighter with bombs.
