Anti-Nanobyte Bomb

-Anti-Nanobyte Bomb-

Nanobyte bomb hitting the ground

Nanobyte bomb in flight, clearly visible is the container that contains the nano-bytes

FEATURED IN:
Ace Combat 03: Electrosphere (JP/NA)

BIO:
The nano-byte bomb is composed of an aerodynamic bombshell that is filled with nano-bytes. Upon impact, these bombs seem to emit some sort of liquid in a large cloud like form. When these bombs were deployed in 2040, the aircraft which were equipped with them were not equipped with any other weaponry. Whether or not this was because of the mechanism or equipment related to the ANB is unknown.

The Anti-Nano-byte Bomb (ANB) is a weapon, assumed to be developed by Neucom Inc. This assumptions comes from an event which occured in 2040, during the Corporate War, at a Neucom Inc. Research Center near the Chopinburg region on the Usean Continent. After a malfunction for unknown reasons, the Nano-bytes began to replicate themselves in Chopinburg Forest and began using natural resources to do so. The UPEO SARF Unit deployed ANBs to neutralize the rouge Nano-bytes. This was the only time the ANB was used.

Anybody thinks that this is blue goo? Non-replicating benefical "police" nanomachines designed to eat up greay goo nanomachines, in this case Nanobytes. That would explain their color (if just a pun) and the small numbers in which they are released; as (I quote) "88.000 tons of pre-built non-replicating dragnet robots could take care of a full-blown atmospheric infestation", so I guess that 8 bombs filed with these could surely take care of the infestation in that forest.

Pictures added and a lil bit of editing done./ Thanks for posting in this topic heinkel, forgot I had to edit this.

Re: your post about 8 of em being able to take care of the infestation. The bombs seem to be engineered to only have an effect within their blast radius or the time it would take for the nanobytes to disperse from 8 bombs would mean that the rogue nanobytes would have replicated or caused too much damage. So maybe they went with he precision bombing to clearly target those clusters of rogue nanobytes more effectively due to time constraints.

Well, if we take in mind that there were town-sized nanobite structures I don't think that the tiny clusters would have been important; theory is that they may have eaten up the growing clusters, and then proceeded to consume the main structures were the nanobites replicated. I don't know how did they move, but they were probably washed up by the wind and dispersed all over the infected area, where they started to do their work

On the "ANB = no other weapons" paragraph: the ANB-only restriction is applied ONLY to the US version. JP's Bug Hunt allows you to carry a machine gun of your choice.

Well, you can't do anything with the MG anyway, unless you want to shoot Rena for fun at the end.

Its fun using the ANB's against sea and ground targets via Gameshark.

What's the effect on non-nanobyte targets?

I meant the effect the ANB has on targets outside the mission Bug Hunt (ie. destroyers, aircraft, tanks, etc.), with the help of Gameshark.

Well they act like Spread Bombs on normal targets but the blast radius is slightly larger. And the reason why Rena doesn't die when you use the ANB's on her its because she is scripted not to.

Edit;
Oh yeah if you wanna use the ANB's via Gameshark here is the code (JP version only):
Anti-Nanobite Bombs: 800BF67A 0600
And if you want to use it against Air targets like you do against Rena (somehow it locks on to her slightly) in Bug Hunt (JP) just change the last Zero to a 6.

So is it spelled Nanobite or Nanobyte? I've seen the latter used more often.

Both are interchangeable so to speak. Depends on what form of English you speak.
