Name: Jack "Heartbreak One" Bartlett

Jack Bartlett is the CO of WARDOG squadron (Sand Island) at the beginning of the game.

He is eventually shot down and presumed captured by the Yuktobanians. This old firebrand has a very take-charge demeanour, but knows how to take care of the pilots under him and that is all that matters to him. He also seems to have the unique ability to turn raw nuggets (newbie pilots) into seasoned veterans. His codename, "Heartbreak One" comes from a love affair he had with a Yuktobanian major where he (as his moniker states) had his heart broken. Signature plane: F-4G

Pops is a mechanic working for the Osean Maritime Defense Force based in Sand Island, who often gives advice to nuggets and aces about anything they need help with.

Eventually, the truth about Pops is revealed, making it clear that his real nationality is not Osean and that he is in fact a former Belkan ace who defected to Osea with the help of Bartlett. He was originally tasked with launching nuclear weapons against his own country. However, he refused to do so, and defected. Real name: Wolfgang Buchner

Name: Alvin H. "Chopper" Davenport (Wardog 3)

Chopper is a nugget based with the OMDF in Sand Island and part of WARDOG squadron. He eventually becomes Wardog 3 during most missions and usually gives humorous feedback, poking fun at Thunderhead, the AWACS controller.

He eventually is shot down in the attack of November City, in an attempt to warn innocent bystanders of evacuation. He buys time for everyone to leave the attacked area in November City, before crash landing and dying on impact.

Name: Hans "Archer" Grimm (Wardog/Razgriz 4)

Archer is a nugget who barely knows how to fly at first, who joins WARDOG squadron during the attack on Sand Island. He becomes somewhat annoying at his self-deprecating comments, but his skill eventually increases making him a good addition to WARDOG/RAZGRIZ squadron.

Name: Kei "Edge" Nagase (Wardog/Razgriz 2)

Edge is one of the few surviving pilots of the Sand Island Incident, where most of the OMDF forces stationed at Sand Island were lost. She is passionately concerned about her flight lead.

She blames herself for Bartlett being shot down and is eventually shot down herself, becoming the cause of a daring Search And Rescue (SAR) mission where she manages to gather information and is retrieved.

Name: Marcus "Swordsman" Snow (Razgriz 3)

At first Swordsman is a more elite pilot, being one of the few remaining Aces of the OMDF carrier Kestrel. He is very loyal to his carrier and his commander. He is also very preachy and cliché when speaking, but his flying abilities are very good.

When the WARDOG flight fakes their own deaths, Swordsman helps them out, deceiving the Osean pursuers to believe that he personally shot down all planes. He was the only remaining pilot on the Kestrel by the time the WARDOG squadron turns into the RAZGRIZ squadron.

Genette is a seasoned reporter stationed in Sand Island with poor fashion sense, who covers most of the events since the Sand Island Incident (in which he lost consciousness sitting in the RIO seat of Bartlett's F-4). Most cutscenes in the game are narrated by him from his point of view. He is very loyal to WARDOG/RAZGRIZ squadron.

Genette later traveled to Aurelia to cover the war between that nation and Leasath, uncovering the truth behind the war.

Name: Nicholas A. Andersen
Age: 61

Andersen is the 'Father' of the OMDF Nimitz-class carrier Kestrel. He manages to pull the Kestrel and its fleet through several battles, including one against Scinfaxi-class MIRVs.

Eventually his fleet is told to sit tight and never given any more orders. During this 'down' time, however, his communications ship 'Andromeda' intercepts transmissions of the WARDOG squadron and Pops' escape from Sand Island and orchestrates a ploy to get them to the Kestrel fleet. When Yuktobanian cruisers and carriers defect from their fleet, he is the one who orders all friendly vessels to attack any ships engaging the defectors. The Kestrel is eventually sunk by an Osean submarine, but not without first launching the RAZGRIZ flight into its last mission. This is Andersen's first and only 'victory'.

Perrault is the commander of Sand Island's OMDF. He is very stubborn and susceptible to mood swings and suspicion. He is a tough bastard when it comes to briefings, but he does have his soft side and cares about his pilots.

He is eventually deceived by Captain Hamilton to believe that the WARDOG flight are Yuktobanian traitors/spies and is revealed to that Pops is not who he says he is. In an attempt to stop the WARDOG squadron and sympathizers he fires several shots at them, missing only by the cunning plan made by Blaze and Edge to cut the power to Sand Island AFB.

Captain Hamilton is on the side of WARDOG squadron, usually providing them with counsel and back-up.

He eventually turns against the WARDOG squadron, treating them as spies and begins plotting a massive scheme of terrorizing both Osea and Yuktobania into peace. In the end, he chases RAZGRIZ flight into the maintenance tunnel of the Sudentor Grunder Industries bunker and crashes into another plane when trying to escape.

Kirk is Pops' dog and WARDOG flight's mascot. He is the only dog in known history to be able to eject out of an airplane with no problems
