Based on A-10A, YA-10B was designated as the maritime strike, two-seater version of A-10A. So as to improve the A-10A, Fairchild proposed a prototype of two-seat Night/Adverse Weather (N/AW) version, including the modification of its night-vision avionics with mounted infrared/radar sensor pods, LN-39 inertial navigation system and AN/APN-194 radar. Maiden flight, aircraft serial 73-1664 (designated A10-0001), was made from Edwards AFB, Muroc, California, USA on May 4, 1979. However, due to the lack of funds, the project was dropped.

Ditto. It's too bad that they didn't bring this thing back in recent games.

Maybe it'll be in a new AC title...Though, the FAEB's weren't quite as useful in AC5, since Tanks could take more damage in that game.

What does the Y in YA-10B stand for? Is it the same as the Y in YF-23 or different?

I see. Isn't prototype just the same as experimental though? What's the real difference?

The 'Y' designation is for prototypes. 'X' designations are for experimental aircraft that have a low probability of actually being produced. Most 'Y' incarnations of aircraft eventually make it to production in some form. 'X' aircraft, such as the Morgan, never actually made it to production. There are exceptions, though, as I believe the EASA's X-02 made it into production despite its experimental status.

Lol, "Y-02". I guess they kept it X-02 because not only is it fictional so they can call it whatever they want, but Y-02 sounds stupid, so they left it X-02 even if it wasn't cancelled. Better still, they coulda just called it F/A-02, like was done with the F/A-18 to indicate it's a multirole.

Well the "Y" designation indicates a prototype and the "X" designation indicated experimental. So the X-02 could have been initially uesd as a testbed for the switchblade wing configuration.

I see your point, but those are links. Besides SuperNK has posted that exact response for every attacker article. He is spamming.

Yes I know I'm spamming Apollo, but I'm just learning how to get used to all of this stuff on ES and ACS. I've talked to one of the Ribbons about it and they know that I'm doing it also, but I'm trying to stop this spamming and going back to type one different thing in every post, every time.
