Of the Schwarze aces or enemy aces in the Belkan War at Operation Battle-Axe, I wonder if someone took up the scheme or the aircraft for the Circum-Pacific War...

Reading the article, yes he was. The Fishbed was still around in Vietnam-era warfare, when Pops would have started his military career. Given that today's military aircraft are so different, he may have tried a couple, but settled on the Fishbed after he had difficulty flying a more modern aircraft.
I read the article again, and I ask: Was Bartlett shot down by Galm? I figured that the Oseans were part of the Allied pact, as well as the Ustian mercenaries...

I think they could have actually played that out in the fight. In AC5 you see Chopper flying toward the stadium before the cutscene starts (which I thought was really cool and I give props to Namco for that). You don't see Bernitz shooting down Huckebein (which should definitely happen). No cutscene necessary, just do it in-game.

Not much different selection the Silber 1 flying an F-4E. Both pilots felt comfortable flying their selected aircraft, sot that's the gist of it.

In AC5, they never actually come out and say that Bernitz Shoots down Pops.... Besides, how could you get the Ace Assult Record for Pops of Grabacr shoots him down.

I just misread the article; I thought it read that Pops was shot down by Bernitz, who was shot down by Bartlett before Galm Team shot him down. Instead, it read that Bernitz put both Bartlett and Buchner out of action before Galm finished the Belkan off.
Perhaps if Cipher does not shoot down Huckebein, then Bernitz does, THEN Bernitz is shot down.

When I look at the words some more of that line the Grabacr pilot says, it almost makes it seem like Huckebein had some clinching power that could have won the war back in 1995. Or was set to partake in some kind of undertaking that played a huge role involving victory...as if Huckebein prevented (maybe Belka, as a whole) from achieving victory (if they're referring 'we' as Belkans in the Belkan War) and totally winning the war. Since he was assigned to drop a nuclear weapon on a city in his own country before the June 6 bomb dropping, and defected, maybe Pops had a much larger role in the story is its made out to be. Something more than just dropping a nuke. A role that one of the Grabacr pilots seems to think could have won the war.
Granted this is just speculation, but it does have me thinking something curious was afoot.

Building on those thoughts, maybe Buchner had been assigned to one of the bombers in Mission 12 (The Stage of Apocalypse)...
