USEAN REFUGEE DISPUTE
- The Ulysses Aftermath -
The Year After:
After the Ulysses Impacts in July of 1999, nations within the Usean continent do their best to handle the refugees from multiple areas, which were damaged by the Ulysses. However, the damage was far more extensive than the nations had expected and it was found that there were roughly 1,000,000 refugees. After talks with one another, the nations began to work together to accommodate the refugees. 'Quotas' of how many refugees each nation was to take were set. In April of the year 2000, one nation, Erusea, announced that it would no longer take in any refugees.
Erusean Hostilities:
The Erusean Minister of Foreign Affairs had stated that Erusea had taken in 200,000 refugees, alone, while other nations expected them to take in even more refugees. It was deemed impossible to take in any more refugees and manage to recover the nation's damages. In Erusea, fragments had also killed tens of thousands; the prime minister had felt as though this was completely unfair to the Erusean public, who also shared his same feeling. As the refugees gather at the Erusean border now neared numbers of up to 600,000, they were sent into refugee camps and flown to different nations in the "Humane Transport Plan".
The General Assembly Commissioner of the United Nations visited these refugee camps and found that they were improperly taken care of and the refugees were sick or become diseased. Many nations began to boycott any products which Erusea sold on the continent in an attempt to change their mind. However, this only worsened the situation.
Around August 22nd of 2003, Erusea suddenly launched a military operation and took the electromagnetic launcher facility known as Stonehenge. Along with it, personnel that worked there were taken and became hostages. Along with them, military equipment was also taken. During the Erusean raid, one of the cannons in the Stonehenge Turret Network (STN) was hit by an aircraft dropped bomb and was knocked out. This began the "Stonehenge Occupation".
