OVERVIEW:
The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter is a term describing the compilation of next-generation light fighters soon to be equipping the United States Air Force, Navy, and Marines, along with multiple countries worldwide. Combining multirole capability with affordability, stealth technology, and resourcefulness, the F-35 has virtually broken the military aviation death spiral as we know it. The F-35C refers to the naval variant of the F-35 program. It is equipped with an enlarged wing and tail section for carrier operations, but does not house an internal gun. It can carry two AMRAAM missiles and two 1000-pound JDAM guided munitions in internal bays, but like the 25mm GAU-12 Avenger cannon, additional stores including AIM-9X Sidewinder missiles or AGM-84 Harpoon air-to-surface missiles can be fitted on external hardpoints. The Pratt & Whitney F135 derivative engine produces enough thrust to put the engine in the 40,000 thrust-pound class, however due to the F-35's rather large size and extension of internalizations, the engine can only produce a thrust-to-weight ratio of approximately .85 to 1. In July of 2006, the United States defense department announced that the Joint Strike Fighter was to be given the official name "Lightning II", in honour of the P-38 Lightning and E.E. Lightning, both Allied fighters serving during the 20th century. A little bit of confusion was caused with the naming of the JSF, as "Lightning II" is also the de-facto nickname of the YF-22 prototype fighter.

By "this guy," do you mean "this plane?"

Yeah, yeah. I mean the plane. I often refer to planes as "guys" or "bad boys." Just a habit of speech, I suppose.

I absolutely love the F-35. I can't attribute love to anything masculine for obvious reasons, so I'd rather refer to the F-35 as "that girl".

...

Okay, nevermind, bad joke. Stop giving me that look. tongue.gif

Yes - the F-35 is a beautiful, beautiful machine of destruction.

I could make a B-1 version of this joke here, but by better judgment has restricted me from doing so.

Hey, that was a fun movie to watch, but that scene was RIDICULOUS. It was completely far-fetched...Oh, well.

I presume you mean as is the case with, oh I don't know, all Die Hard movies? laugh.gif

Realistic or not, I pretty much went mad watching the scene though. I remember yelling aloud "IT'S TEH PLANE!" as it zoomed into view, to the stunned silence of the entire hall... obviously my buddies kept their distance for some time, bad for their public image strolling with a mental you know. tongue.gif

Dude, it's OK. I all but lost my cookies when I saw this bad boy hit the big screen. I was very excited, even if it did have to get its ass handed to it by Willis. Oh, well. Oh, there I go again, calling an airframe a "bad boy."

Naughty, naughty...

Bruce Willis should have gotten sucked into the intake - I'd watch that movie.

The F-35 WAS a joint project. They do desperately need to upgrade from the Harrier.

Speaking of the Harrier, why don't we ever get to pilot one in any AC game??
