Underground SAM
- Indestructible SAM -

- U-SAM Image A -

Games Featured In:
Ace Combat 2
Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War
Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War

Operators:
"A World With No Boundaries"
Osean Defence Force
Usean Rebel Force
Yuktobanian Military

Overview:
The underground-based SAMs seen in Ace Combat 2, 5, and Zero are unique in the fact that they are rendered invulnerable to enemy attack. However, the AC2 U-SAMs have rather poor tracking capability and are easily outmaneuvered. The AC5 and Zero versions though, are fairly aggressive and are best avoided.

@ Ribbon-Rena: IIRC, the U-SAMs appear in the missions "Destroying the enemy's Elemental Particle Lab" and "Fighter's Honor".

@ JDX: Really? I didn't know that; thanks.

Yeah, you can prove, if you get away of the ravine, then the undergroud SAM atack to you. And if you can ECM, you can survive for few seconds, until the ECM is finish. XD

Edit:
I forgot say, when you get away of the ravine and the underground SAM atack to you, take a look with rear view, and you can see the enemy missile.... look like QAAM. It's true, it's a missile from hell !!! XD

Ohh. THAT missile.. I thought ECM doesn't work with them (in my experience)..

I don'think any picture is available, but i think a screenshot of JDX's idea will be good..

Those damned things from AC2's last mission(Fighter's Honor, the real one) are just regular AA guns and SAMs. If you play on hard, you can't lock them, but if you play on normal or easy you can lock n' PWN them, I think(It's been a while since the last time I played AC2 on easy or normal, I'll check and then I'll let ya know).

I would suggest these SAMs are Nikes, as they were used in the same fashion around US cities.

Nope, Nikes have a rectangular missile elevator that that extends a launch rail:

Also, the Nikes were area of effect weapons (several versions had nuclear warheads) and not terribly accurate, so they wouldn't be the lethally accurate SAMs of AC5's and ACZ's canyon missions.

Did you not see the picture from AC2? Doesn't look at all like a Nike base. And my point in mentioning AC5 and ACZ is that the article says they are in those games ("Ghosts of Razgriz" and, I guess, "The Valley of Kings") but I have not seen the launchers themselves.

It is an incredibly simple operation to launch the Nike from a modified silo profile. This isn't brain surgery here and stop being literal, it's not cute and doesn't make you any smarter for being a douche.

Edit : I am only addressing the SAM system in Elemental Particle, the other systems are obviously bunker based or armored emplaced SAMs, not Underground Silos.

Second Edit : The only other possible system is some sort of conventionally armed Sprint ABM converted for SAM duty.

Huh? I didn't mean to come across as "being literal". And to be honest, I hadn't even considered modified silo profiles. In retrospect, you probably were right, my thinking was too limited.
Sorry.

The Behavior of these missiles made me wonder if these were the same missiles used in Air Combat to guard the Radar Base at the end of the Ravine. In the briefing it mentions a high spec missile with no countermeasures forcing you to fly in the ravine to get to the target.
