Oh I see, so one's the real Sr-71, and the AC3 one is is a ficitonal variation, I see.

Also: no need to be so formal, it sounds funny that way lol

Très formal. It would seem that there are fundamental differences between the two craft, even though they have the same basic airframe. To me it didn't seem like that configuration would permit for anything other than straight-flying speed, yet the RF-12A2 has adequate maneuverability.

If I recall, the SR-71 was actually quite manoeuvrable, to the point that it could turn sharply enough to burn out its engines. This was primarily the chines on the fuselage at work, which increased the SR-71's agility to the extent that they surpassed canards in their benefit to flight performance. I do not know which engines the RF-12A2 uses, but the turbo-ramjets on the original Blackbird were a main part in the limitations of the aircraft in terms of turning ability and therefore any dogfighting capability that the RF-12A2 now possesses. (please correct me if I am wrong)

In real life the sister plane to the SR-71 was the YF-12 which was an interceptor. Both planes were revisions to the A-12 CIA spyplane, and both did use the same engines (Pratt & Whitney JTD11D) which meant the planes were qualified past Mach 3. In the end the SR-71 was given the green light and served for years, while the YF-12 was nixed before full production could begin because there weren't actually any Soviet bombers that would require a Mach 3+ intercept.

That was just McNamera's excuse to kill it & destroy the tooling machines used to build the SR-71/YF-12. He didn't want anything to threaten his rotten baby, the F-111.

However, how does this relate to the RF-12A2?

Still, good information. I figured the SR-71 was a further development of the YF-12 and A-12.

And, in turn, the RF-12A2 was a development of the SR-71. The topic has now come full circle. This is the SR-71 topic, anyway.

I figured that the Blackbird was designed for an interceptor roll with "meh" maneuverability.

New image added and variants edited; the A-12 and YF-12 have not appeared in any AC games.

This also appears in ACX2 as a Valahian ace codenamed: BUZZWORD.

I wonder why the Blackbirds in AC04 only take a single MSSL to die, whereas in ACZ it needs the usual two (Or three) to destroy? Weird. Seeing it is a big aircraft in AC04
