Ace Combat X uses a PSP's Ad Hoc Capability to wirelessly connect with other PSPs to play Ace Combat X. There is also a way to play Ace Combat X Online by utilizing the XLink Kai Evolution VII PC Program or a similar program, which allows system link enabled games to use a WiFi USB Transmitter, able to transmit in Ad Hoc.
Ace Combat X's Multiplayer also incorporates its own online ranking system. Players start at Airman Basic and work their way up through ranks the more they play online. There are also medals for successfully defending objectives and winning a certain amount times on specific game modes.
Game Modes
Ace Combat X's multiplayer function is capable of supporting 1 v. 1 and 2 v. 2 games in various game modes.

Dog Fight: Survival: Setup like Dog Fight Shoot Out mode, the goal of this mode is to be the last player flying. Once a player is shot down, they are out of the match until the match restarts.
Dog Fight: Shoot Out: This is a deathmatch or "Battle Royale" which pits all players against one another. The player with the most points at the end of a round wins .
Base Attack: Two teams must protect a heavily defended base while attempting to destroy the opposing team's base defenses in an effort to capture it.
Beacon Battle: This is essentially capture the flag. Two teams fight over a Beacon which must be 'captured' by one side and brought back to their base. The aircraft with a beacon on board loses some mobility, but has the option to eject the beacon. The side which captures the beacon (most beacons) is the winner.
Escort Battle: Two teams will trade off roles as the attacker of defender of various targets. While one side is tasked with defending targets which change depending on the map, the other side is tasked with destroying them as fast as possible.
