Sea Shadow (IX-529)
- Experimental Warship -

- Sea Shadow Image A -

ORIGIN: (Real World)
United States of America

GAMES FEATURED IN:
Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War

OPERATORS:
Grunder Industries (?)

WEAPONS:
Unknown / None

OVERVIEW:
The "Sea Shadow" is a test craft developed by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA), the Navy, and Lockheed Martin Skunk Works in the mid-1980's. Its purpose is to explore a variety of new technologies for surface ships, including ship control, structures, automation for reduced manning and signature control. The ship's angular design allows for it to have a low radar signature making it almost undetectable by enemy radar.

Sea Shadow incorporates several low observable features. Highly slanted surfaces and radar absorbing material deter radar. Visually, its twin pontoon-like hulls create little wake. Audibly, its diesel electric motors provide a quiet level of sound.

I'd love to see this thing at sea in a new AC, and make it at sea so that when you bag it, it actually sinks, unlike in AC05 when it didn't because it was docked and the water was too shallow. Also, anyone notice how the flame comin' out of it when it dies is white? blink.gif

It is worth noting that, the Sea Shadow seen in AC5, was stretched a bit.

I thought it seemed to be a bit on the long side... were there any other Sea Shadows (IRL) that were extended for any reason? Also, to clarify, the Sea Shadow was/is just a test bed for naval tech and nothing else, right? I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to the Sea Shadow, so I'm just asking.

Yeah, it was pretty much a test bed only... then they took the tech from it and they're incorporating it into new designs.

Shouldn't this be in the destroyer subsection? It's a destroyer in the AC world.

Well the thing is, since the Sea Shadow was an experimental ship in the real world and not an actual production warship; I felt that the ship would be better catagorized in the miscellaneous section.

IX-529 Sea Shadow blueprints, with Grunder Industries roundel.
In the inside of the ship, you can read "Belka Naval Force" - "Grey Men"

IIRC, the Sea Shadow in AC5 looks out of proportion next to the giant cargo crane.. But then again, most AC Games have issues with things looking proportionate.

As for the RL Sea Shadow. I think it ws built by Lockheed Martin for stealth technology development for ships. It's not actually anything operational.

Jian, I think you got something wrong there, that's the roundel of the Air Force, not the Navy's insignia.

Belka dont have another official roundel. I think than that is the roundel for the Belka Military generaly

Only aircraft use roundels, and the one you have on the Sea shadow is the BAF Roundel. Maybe you could use the Belkan Flag. Another thing, I don't think the ship in AC5 had any markings since Sudentor was in North Osea.

Yeah, i was thinking that too. I will change for the Belka flag. but...
You right, its imposible than belka declare it self with his flag in Osea, so...
What about if i put the Osea Marine Defence Force roundel?
