Gandr
- Gleipnir’s Prototype -

Gandr launching SWBM -Gandr’s SWBM - Gandr’s SWBM detonating

GAMES FEATURED IN:
Ace Combat Xi: Skies of Incursion

OPERATORS:
Leasath Air Force

OVERVIEW:
An experimental prototype of the Gleipnir, the Gandr is a massive aerial fortress deployed by Leasath.

The Gandr possesses an impressive array of weaponry, and is effective against both land-based and air targets. It's aerial defenses include conventional artillery and guided missile launchers. However, the Gandr lacks the Gleipnir's advanced camouflage and massive Shock Cannon, and is as such limited as an offensive weapon.

The Gandr was sent by Leasath to destroy a group of Aurelian ships en route to Griswall. Shortly after destroying the naval force, the Gandr was destroyed by Aurelian ace Falco 1, which allowed Gryphus Squadron to recapture Griswall, the Aurelian capital.

The missile it launches in the opening cutscene isn't an SWBM. It's obviously a LWSM, the missile Fenrir uses.

It's basically Gleipnir but with no Shock Cannon and advanced LSWM's.

So, this thing's only mission was to halt the Aurelian Naval reinforcements before they could reach the capital, as the capital was being taken over?

Yup.

You can't blame them, it's an iPhone game :/

However, this thing was a prototype. I just don't know why they would waste resources to send this giant black flying whale instead of sending a squadron out, since Leasath had a massive militairy. The game probably needed a final boss battle, show they chose this. I also don't know why they couldn't just put the advanced SWBM's in Gleipnir, instead of wasting time creating the Shock Cannon.

the same reason that a laser is more destructive than a lightbulb, cobra. the SWBM and advanced LSWMs are both forms of lightbulbs, spreading their destruction everywhere except where it's needed. the gleipnir simply took the LSWM and gave it two different variants, both of which were stronger. the SWBM produces a larger shock wave (and can be launched further due to being a BALLISTIC MISSILE), while the shock cannon is basically where the gleipnir takes an LSWM, detonates it, and focus's the explosion into one area. bam, laser invented off of the light bulb, allowing for much precision.

oh and xiao, are you SURE that that blueprint isn't the gleipnir's blueprint?

realy small diferences:
- SAMs and AA guns are diferent locations than Gleipnir
- remove al the SWBM launchers at the top and replaced by only one
- remove shock canon launcher
- and the Gandr is more little than Gleipnir.

I bet this thing is easier than defeating the Fenrir.

Nah, it's quite annoying, considering that you're using an iPhone/Pod/Pad to move around, it makes dodging missiles/guns and diving to avoid the SWBM a huge pain.

I find quite a lil hard to control the plane, but I'm still satisfied with ACXi.

I bet that in case that either the Gandr or the Gleipnir is successful, the Leasath military would field an armada of aerial fortresses that are of the same model as the Gleipnir.

ON A REALISTIC STANDPOINT:
Never mind the fuel, the costs to build ONE airship would equal 100 B-2 Spirits at best. Building an entire fleet would send the global economy into the worst recession in history.

LONG STORY SHORT:
This is Ace Combat after all: nations of the early 21st century already have access to village-sized railguns, mass-production laser technology & airships that fly disregarding the laws of physics. Even Strangereal's Haiti can have a flying carrier whenever they wish.
