OVERVIEW:
The AOE Towada class is an enlarged, improved version of the AOE Sagami class. The hull construction method follows that of a general merchant tanker, but there is a mooring deck below the upper deck in the back of the ship. There is a space for a large-scale helicopters (such as the MH-53) to land and take off on the back deck. In addition, it was designed to carry defensive anti-air armament such as the CIWS.
