History:
The Mitsubishi A6M Zero is the second playable old fighter at one Ace Combat game excepting Sky Crawlers.
First flown on 1 April 1939, the A6M1 prototype was powered by a 780-hp Mitsubishi Zuisei radial engine which gave it excellent performance except for its maximum speed, which was below navy specifications. A second prototype, the A6M2, was powered by a 925-hp Nakajima Sakae engine, which was so successful that in July 1940, the type was ordered into production as the Navy Type "0" Carrier Fighter Model 11. Other variants were rapidly introduced, including a two-seat trainer, the A6M2-K; a Nakajima-built floatplane version called the A6M2-N; a performance-increased version called the A6M5; and several re-engined versions late in the war which culminated in the 1130-hp A6M8.
Five years of service since 1940 until 1945 the Type 0 was the main Japanese fighter in the Second World War

And then you'd get a mission failed notice as the plane would be ripped apart and you'd die.

I agree with Heinkel, it could be a flashback. Although reading the blurred mess as much as I could, looks like something that says "flying old warriors in the 21st century" or something.

Well, if it's supposed to be a flashback, why is there a picture of it in Martinez security markings?

I'm confused.

Perhaps they employ them as training/recon aircraft?

You can change the aircraft's insignia just like the paint schemes.

Probably riding on the success of Sky Crawlers.

Maybe, but look at the image Raptor 1 posted - it clearly shows a Zero scoring a kill, which suggests you can use it and shoot down stuff.

I wonder how will you be able to engage the Spirious in an old timey from WWII. A Night Raven on Chris Redfield steroids being shot down by a turboprop fighter from Sino Japan; talk about real crowning moment of awesome.
