One, for the first time in almost 15 years, the Sukhoi Su-25 "Frogfoot" makes it's appearance. Last time we've seen the Frogfoot in an AC title was 2. So at least I'm a bit happy that one of my favorite attackers is back.
and then there is the Su-24MP "Fencer-F", an ELINT model of the Su-24 designed to replace the Yak-28PP "Brewer-E," therefore the Fencer in this game is a Jammer aircraft....which sucks.
So...once again my opinions are mixed. :|
Note that those craft are also in blue boxes, traditionally representing allies. That's a good sign of non-side specific plane choices.

Started from ACX2:JA, AC has been shifted from Strangereal World into the Real World, but still keeping the original component intact (storyline, super weapons, super planes, enemy aces, cheesy conversation, tunnel mission, etc).
And then AC:AH... they've completely shifted the game into something else. No super weapons, no super planes, HAWX and MW2 style, even possibly rail shooter style.
As far as the trailer goes though.. I'll keep my faith on Project ACES until both games released.
But I really hope that Ace Combat won't go this way:
7 years ago, Ace Combat is "Nothing Else Comes Close"
But now, Ace Combat is just "Something Else Comes Again"
If AH really goes this way... NBGI should just name this game Assault Horizon, and leave Ace Combat alone.
Just release a brand new game dammit.

I'm very excited about the launch of the new game. Finally it is multiplatform and the graphics look great but I agree with Shieldheart. I feel that it is abandoning the essence of the first games, maybe this radical change will give us good things but so much influence from other games like HAWX bothers me,
Well, lets wait the TGS and see!

Interesting that they hired "A Military Author" to advise on the story. "Military Author"... someone in the same line of work as, say, Tom Clancy at Ubisoft? I guess the more things change, the more they become the same...

The previous Ace Combat games didn't need no stinking Military Authors, all of them are the same, writing about US vs. Russia, like Russia is the only opponent we are fighting, what about China? What about Central Africa? >:(

Well, for the little we've seen so far, they seem to be headed in the right direction.
When I heard that guitar solo when the word "Rebirth" is shown, I almost jumped from my chair.
About time rock claims back it's rightful place as THE music for dogfights.

I've always liked Ace Combat's plot. I can...feel it. There's more emotion to it. That was always one of the high points of the series, so I hope Mr. Military Author doesn't mess with the plot too much...

In the press of gamescom we were able to chat with Kazutoki Kono, producer of this episode Horizon Assault subtitle, unfortunately, the interview was not accompanied by any new visual material but only the trailer's debut, released already last week. Based then on the words of St. Kono, what transpires is that the determination to make a change to a franchise obviously need a strong review from the perspective of game mechanics, largely anchored in the series debuts. Actually Ace Combat: Assault Horizon has even been called a renaissance, a term often abused but in this case seems to have the foundations of reality.
Shift
The key is definitely what the producer called "Close Range Assault System" on paper is a system that actually ravvicinerā the player, and then his airplane at the center. There was talk of dogfights at a short distance, passing between buildings collapsing, explosions and two steps and the like, though all for now it remains only on paper, it is clear that the programs aim to reduce "dead time" phases Flight markedly increasing the specific weight of the component within the period of spectacular action game. Among other things we will be able to destroy many buildings in the cities, an interesting but not pay the next possible mass destruction in the face of limited resources, however the player will have. Unlike previous episodes there should be support company, requiring to meet the solo missions in story mode.
Also for the first time the setting is real and not fanciful, so here we will fight to the skies in Miami as well as other U.S. cities, then in East Africa and the Middle East. Finally the last note to park aircraft available, around 40 units that will also include helicopters, as the goal by San Kono is to focus not so much on quantity as the effective separation of individual means in the control and conduct the user commands.
