Overview:
The M102 is a light-weight 105mm Howitzer that was first utilized during the Vietnam conflict, replacing the older M101A1 Howitzer. The M102 would see usage with the U.S. military throughout the 1980s, to ODS, to the current war on terror and even though it is no longer used by the Army, it is still in use with national guard units, the USMC for ceremonial purposes and with the USAF as a heavy weapon onboard the AC-130 gunships. The M102 was modified to be fired from the leftside rear door of the aircraft.
