Posted Image

Games Featured In:
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon

Operators:
East African Militia

Overview:
The Trinity Bomb has been confirmed to appear in the story of Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, under the control of the antagonistic East African Militia. This weapon is mentioned in the story section of the official Assault Horizon site, and the information is as follows:

"Shortly after arriving in Africa, a helicopter force on a guerilla sweeping mission is engulfed in a blinding flash of light, and blasted out of the sky by a massive shock wave. The few helicopter crews who survive the blast are brought back to the base covered in third-degree burns. Word quickly spreads that the anti-government insurgency has developed a new type of super weapon. Before the task force has time to investigate how the insurgency succeeded in developing such advanced weaponry, the scramble alert sounds. As Bishop and company race to secure the super weapon, the flames of battle spread across northern Africa, eventually engulfing the world."

I find it funny how Hawk Gunner died at that scene. It totally gave me a dejavu of CoD4 nuclear explosion scene where a massive flash blinds everyone and everyone onboard dies...

This isn't a thermobaric, there is no aerosolization phase of detonation.

There we go, remember that Thermobaric weapons deliever crushing type damage to their targets via extreme overpressure. They don't burn their targets like say Napalm. The burn damage could come from extremely high thermal radiation via light, like a nuclear weapon, but obviously we aren't dealing with the same scale of boom or the nasty side effects.

Could it be like the MOAB?

The MOAB is like the Grand Slam, it's a straight forward demolition bomb meant to crush hardened structures via spalling and localized earthquakes caused by the force of the explosion into the ground. Trinity's ability to practically burn people alive by heat from the light alone leads me to believe there's more to the weapon then what we can tell at the moment.

Hmm, what bombs can burn people at the same time while creating a large BOOM?

Pretty much only Nuclear weapons release enough energy to burn people alive through thermal radiation by the visual flash of their explosion. Other weapons depend on some sort of substance making contact with the target to burn it. (Napalm, Thermite, etc.)

Yeah, Trinity isn't familiar at all.

Speaking of Trinity, that paragraph stating that the weapon is thermobaric was copypasted from Acepedia. When writing the article, I first thought that the weapon was thermobaric due to the way it behaved upon conflagration.

It could be a Neutron Bomb, but the one that hit's the airbase would be the only properly scaled explosion. The one from the cargo truck is too small to properly function as a neutron bomb, it'd have to be something like the Davy Crockett.

I think that would have killed the hell out of Hawkgunner and his pilot.

The yield is only 10-20 tons. What they should be more concerned about is the fact that the Davy Crockett is a very "dirty" nuclear warhead and they both just got flashed by a pretty heavy dose of Gamma.

I meant killed by the hilariously high radiation flash that fries tank crewmembers inside their vehicles, not the explosive yield.
