Overview:
The F-2 is a Japanese domestically-developed 4th-generation fighter based on the F-16 airframe, but with a 25% larger wing and reshaped tail faring. It is designed to replace the F-1 in Japanese service. Though fully-capable of air-to-air combat, the F-2 is optimized for ground attack and maritime shipping patrol. Using an advanced avionics suite developed by Mitsubishi and new actively-scanned array radar, the F-2 has excellent air and ground tracking ability, with the capability to fire a multitude of ranged surface-attack weapons. Overall performance is similar to the Block 50/52 F-16C Fighting Falcon, albeit the installation of an uprated F110 turbofan engine. Unique about the fighter is the allowance of certain radar-absorbent materials applied to the leading edges of the aircraft. 141 were planned to be ordered by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, however due to cost-efficiency, suffered sever cutbacks to about 100 aircraft, due to the aircraft's 108 million dollar price tag.

EXPERIMENTAL SUMMARY: Constructed through an international consortium, the F-2A is an F-16-derived strike fighter featuring generation 4.5 components. Designed to succeed and improve upon the capability of the the old F-1A defense fighter and based off the defunct "Agile Falcon" alternative ATF concept, the F-2 features an advanced active electronically scanned array radar, advanced composites, a powerful F110-129 turbofan engine, and superior anti-surface combat capability. Despite its heavier design and lower thrust-to-weight ratio, the F-2A's performance remains comparable to the lighter and more nimble F-16. Radar absorbent coatings applied to the aircraft's leading edges give it a reduced frontal radar signature to further aid in its attack role. Yet despite all its advantages over the F-16, the F-2 carries with it a hefty price tag brought about through expensive licensing fees and a smaller-than-expected order from its home market.

Grammar and spelling edits made.

Interesting that the end result of this project was an aircraft weighing almost as much as the F-15 but with one engine, much less capable than the Block 50, which Japan would have really wanted. The port and starboard wings are also made by different American and Japanese companies.

Picture link as down so I used the Namco F-2 picture link as the main pic.
@ Grastens: Japanese aircraft programs tend to have a history of being overbudget taking too loong and adding unnecessary stuff to aircraft. THey shouldve just bought the F-15E at the cost of one of these.

Also pic of concept before the F-2 was raped by budget cuts, such a waste.

Agreed. Image added.

Also note that I added a new experimental summary and reference format that I've been working on for a bit. I figure that this would be a good opportunity to try it out and get some feedback. I base the concept on trying to downplay the real world references wherever possible and try to bring in some of what Ace Combat mentions about the figthers, in this case the concept that the F-2 was built "through an international consortium", which technically is also true about the real world F-2.

Additionally, note the new formatting for the sources and references. I tried an MLA-style format, but since none exists for games, I sort of had to make something up that is similar. Note that I specified where the information came from, in this case the hangar summary data of the F-2. I'd like to strive for this type of sourcing format in both future and current articles, as it should both lend more credibility to the articles, as well as specify exactly where the data came from.

i'm happy it was done for the f-2 but one thing the f-2 is a 4.5 generation fighter not 4th (not yours the top one)
