NATO/North Atlantic Treaty Organisation

The NATO Flag with its Member Nations' Flag

-Type-
Intergovernmental Military Alliance

-Founded-
1949

-Members-
28 Nations from Europe and North America

-Background-
The NATO, or short of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation is an intergovernmental military alliance founded by 12 nations in Washington DC following the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty in 1949 with the primary goal of creating an alliance to counter the threats from the Soviet Union at that time. It applies"Collective Defence" in which that if a nation is under attack, then the other nations will assist. This has became more apparent when the Korean War breaks out which has proven the Soviet's aggressive actions.

After the end of Cold War with the collapse of the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact in 1991, NATO reaches out its former enemies (Notably Poland, Czech, and most Warsaw Pact nations) by proposing a cooperation in Security. It was believed that at that time, NATO is no longer needed and many nations cut their military spending. However, regional instabilities still occur in East Europe and eventually the Yugoslav War breaks out, which in turn forces NATO to deploy there as a peackeeping force in Balkan Peninsula.

However, the 9/11 tragedy has changed everything in the West. Just a day after the attack, the members of NATO invoked the article 5 of Washington Treaty-Collective Defence Provision which means that if a member nation is under attack, it means that the whole NATO is under attack. Soon, US and its allies launched the operation in hunting Al-Qaeda, the terrorist group that is believed to be responsible. Afterwards, NATO also deploys in ISAF peacekeeping operations since 2003, Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 also, and most lately, Operation Odyssey Dawn (Libya) in 2011.

Wikipedia Article on NATO

Article is incomplete. Work is in progress

* Dentoes that it is a speculative information. Magic is an AWACS, and NATO only has the E-3A, so it might be possible that Magic is in E-3A. There are no evidences of Luftwaffe activity in AH, but the Typhoon bears both RAF and Luftwaffe colours, so it might be possible if both are also involved

NATO also has C-17s, and this is coming from someone who was under NATO for a year. the C-17's are based in Hungary at Papa air base.

Eh... Sorry mate, not to deny you or what, but we are talking about the NATO in Assault Horizon, and there's no C-17s in AH

The AC-130 in the game is the Spooky, just so you know. By the way, add the C-130 to the USAF section: you can see the one carrying Bishop and friends to Miami at the beginning of Home Front.

Added.

And I'd love to get some help in summarising the NATO actions in Assault Horizon.

Eh... it's HH-60 Pavehawk not MH-60 Pavehawk. MH-60's are just Blackhawks, but the Navy ones are a different story.

HH-60's are not used by the Army they use MH-60's. i know that for a fact. plus the fact is the game itself shows the words on the side of the aircraft saying "UNITED STATES ARMY" which that alone with the fact it is a spec ops bird with a rerueling probe and the pure black color that it's an MH-60 and not an HH-60.
plus looking at the images i can plainly see the diffference between the 2. remember what my job is. i'm an army helo mechanic, i know my aircraft.

plus if it helps look at the front of the aircraft, that alone in the video tells me that it's MH-60 and not a HH-60. in fact it's at 00:06 in the video that tells me MH-60 with the U.S. Army.
