Really? 1 week? Is that any more time than it takes to maintain a KC-135? (I mean, they're getting old...)

Age has some bearing on maintenance, but just because something is old doesn't mean it's hard to take care off. The older craft in the fleet are simpler designs and have long, LONG established methods of going about them. Some stuff is designed more with maintenance in mind.

That is true. Aren't the KC-135s being phased out of the USAF, though?
