207TH TACTICAL FIGHTER SQUADRON "Gryphus"
ACX - Aurelian Border Defense Squadron

-Gryphus Squadron's Emblem-

Background:
The Gryphus Squadron of the Aurelian Air Force was stationed at Aubrey Air Base, in Cape Audery, Aurelia. As Border Defense Squadon, it was supposed to prevent any Leasath incursion into their territory. Within 10 days of the outbreak of the Aurelia-Leasath War, the Gryphus Squadron was one of few Air Force units left under Aurelian control. Nevertheless, Gryphus Squadron managed to repel the Leasath Military Forces and played a key role in liberating Aurelia.

History:
The 207th Tactical Fighter Squadron "Gryphus" was a Border Defense Squadron in the Aurelian Air Force, stationed at Aubrey Air Force Base. The squadron was part of the last line of defense against the advancing Leasath Forces during its invasion of Aurelia in 2020. After saving Aubrey Air Base from Leasath bombers, the squadron was almost completely annihilated by a Sonic Wave Ballistic Missile launched from the Glepnir. Nevertheless, the squadron went on the offensive, first helping capture Puna Air Force Base, then Port Patterson. After the capture of Port Patterson, the Gryphus Squadron began to conduct missions across the southern part of Aurelia, culminating in the destruction of the Glepnir and liberation of Santa Elva. They then supported the Aurelian Advance to the north, resulting in the destruction of the Meson Cannon and the liberation of Griswall, Aurelia's Capital. Aurelia had been liberated.

However, Leasath's Commanding Officer Diego Navarro fled to the Danern Straits, which contained production facilities for the Fenrir Superfighter and its High Power Microwave (HPM) Weapon system. Gryphus was sent in to destroy the facilities, which culminated in the destruction of Archelon Fortress. With Archelon destroyed, the war finally came to an end, and Gryphus returned to peacetime duties.

Pilot Roster:
Gryphus One:

Name: ----
Nationality: Aurelian

Gryphus One was the commander of the 207th Tactical Fighter Squadron of the Aurelian Air Force, stationed at Aubrey Air Force Base. During the war, he became known as the "Southern Cross" by the Aurelians, as well as "Nemisis" by the Leasath Military. After losing most of his squadron, he became the hero of the Aurelian military, destroying the Gliepnir, Meson Cannon, Fenrir and Archelon Fortress. The only thing known about him as that he hated hot weather

Rick:
Name: Rick
Nationality: Aurelian

Second Lieutenant Rick was Gryphus Two of the 207th Tactical Fighter Squadron. He was very proud of his country of Aurelia, and liked the Gryphus logo of the squadron. Although he was a very skilled pilot, he often hated following orders. He was very rude to his ground controller, Crux, who nevertheless took a liking to him. During a bomber intercept mission, however, he was shot down by the Gleipnir over Cape Aubrey.

Roy:
Name: Roy

Nationality: Aurelian
Second Lieutenant Roy is Gryphus Three in the 207th Tactical Fighter Squadron. He was shot down by the Gleipnir over Cape Aubrey.

Crux:
Name: Eugene Solano
Nationality: Aurelian

The Gryphus Squadron's Ground-based Air Controller. He monitored the actions of the Gryphus Squadron from the ground and provided the same support as an AWACS.

Formation: 5 F-4E Phantom II Aircraft

Pilots: Gryphus one, Rick, and Roy

Profiles:

Gryphus One:

Gryphus One, name unknown, is a Captain in the Aurelian Air Force and commander of the 207th Tactical Fighter Squadron stationed at Aubrey Air Force Base. After losing most of his squadron, he became the hero and Ace of Aces for the Aurelian military, destroying the Gliepnir, Atmos Ring (Meson Cannon), along with Fenrir and Archelon Fortress. Although little is known about him, it is known that he hated hot weather, making it ironic for him being in the Southern Hemisphere.

Rick:

Second Lieutenant Rick is Gryphus Two in the 207th Tactical Fighter Squadron. He was very proud of his country, Aurelia, along with liking the Gryphus logo of the squadron, but, was shot down by the Gleipnir over Cape Aubrey. Although he was a very skilled pilot, he often hated going by the book, as shown by his radio chatter with Crux. To Crux, he was a very rude and brash pilot, yet, Crux took a liking to him. His last words were: "Where should we go? Where's it coming from? How far is it?"

Roy:

Second Lieutenant Roy is Gryphus Three in the 207th Tactical Fighter Squadron. Although he was only heard twice in game, he was a skilled pilot, but was shot down by the Gleipnir over Cape Aubrey.

EDIT:

History:

The 207th Tactical Fighter Squadron "Gryphus" is a Maritime Defense Squadron in the Aurelian Air Force stationed at Aubrey Air Force Base. This squadron became the last line of defense after the Aurelian military was crushed by the advancing Leasath Forces in 2020. After the shoot down of Leasath Air Force bombers, the squadron was almost annihilated, save for it's leader and one other pilot. Afterward, the squadron went on the offensive, first taking over Puna Air Force Base, then providing air cover for the remnants of the Aurelian Army in the recapture of Port Patterson. After the capture of Port Patterson, the Army, Navy, and Air Force began to rush across the southern part of Aurelia, soon capturing Santa Elva, and pushing into Griswall. However, before capturing Griswall, the Meson Cannon had to be taken offline. After the Meson Cannon was destroyed/shut off, the capital was recaptured, and the war was technically over. However, the commanding officer of Leasath had dissapeared, and was followed by two F-117s of the Aurelian Air Force. However, they were shot down by Archelon fortress, and the Gryphus Squadron, along with the Aquila Squadron was sent out to destroy it.

In the end, Archelon fortress was destroyed, and Diego Navarro had went into hiding after his ultimate weapon Fenrir had failed and the truth about the flow of money in Leasath was revealed. After the war, the Gryphus squadron were hailed as heroes, even being put into Santa figures. They returned to Aubrey Air Force Base, and peace held.

Does anyone have a higher-res image of the roundel itself? The one we have in our article is kind of puny.

I was thinking. According to ES' page on the Falco Squadron's page, only the YF-23 and F-22's on 13A and B are from Falco, not the Rafales. But we know for a fact that Gryphus 5 was there. So, should the Rafale be mentioned as his aircraft?

EDIT: also, Squadron Logo from the opening movie

That's a good question... maybe we should just add a side note to his information.

Meh, cutscenes are considered more canonical; they use either F-4s or upgrade to F-22s before the end of the war, like Mobius Squadron. I'd just put those guys as random on-tier reinforcements, but that's just me.
