MISSION SP -- THE GAUNTLET
Operation: ----

DATE: ----
AREA: B7R
OPERATION: ----

Briefing
This is a special mission, where you must shoot down the Belkan Aces over B7R. They will attack you in waves until you have defeated them all. Now, you don't shoot all of them down, but rather the ones that go with whatever Ace Style you have loaded in your 'Continue'.

If you manage to defeat all of them quickly enough in Ace Mode, a special fight will open to you. When the Wizard Squadron appears they will all be shot down by none other, than the legendary ISAF Ace of Aces, Mobius One. After defeating the Wizard Squadron, Mobius One will set his sights on you. This is the only time that Mobius One can be engaged in combat by the player, in any Ace Combat Game and is quite the treat for any Ace Combat Fan.

Advice:
Don't take him lightly. He doesn't fly like the Belkans. He will open up with a volley of four XMAAs, two Regular Missiles and a hail of gun fire. Which means that if you try to pull the old head-on missile trick on him, you catch a face full of AMRAAM, followed by some Sidewinder and Hot Lead.

After that he pulls many High Velocity, High G Maneuvers, which are nearly impossible to keep up with. Also, be weary of his 90 degree square corner move, he uses to suddenly change his direction and go head to head with you at an extremely close range. From there he will launch a hail of missiles at you. The best advice I can give you is to stay on his tail and watch his every move. And also, which I cannot stress enough, do not go head to head with him.

Bit of a nitpick once again, but isn't the aces appearance time based rather than on your game save?

I believe the aces that appeared are the ones you had killed the last run..
The time based are only Mobius I believe..

If it was the last run, then wouldn't I be encountering Indigo and Silber always? I've been fighting as a true Knight Ace from the last time I played ACZ, yet I always encounter the Mercenary Aces. (though if I spent too much time going after Gelb, I end up fighting Soldier aces))

Time-based is only Mobius, I think. I remember facing Soldier aces all the way through when I played.

And the timed run is only affected by Espada; shoot them down in under 1 minute, and you face Mobius.

Who you engage in Gauntlet has nothing to do with which path you follow. It depends on How fast you take out Gelb at the very beginning. This will determine who you face next.

I find the TLS is the best weapon to take out Mobius.

I haven't managed to take out Mobius with anything other than SAAMs and the TLS - is that weird? I almost got him one time with an SFFS, though.

Nothing is more satisfying than dropping A2G weapons on other planes. Although I've only done it once...

Even you got to admit that, that was a lucky shot. laugh.gif It's not like Mobius flys low the entire time.

Note to all players out there: using the F-15E in the Gauntlet may be fun on Normal with Novice controls, but don't NEVER EVER do that EVER on Ace. Grun can and will rip you to shreds.

I prefer either the F-15S/MTD or the SU-37......

Here's my score form Gauntlet....

Getting ALL the YF-23's when Mobius appears is the real trick...

I usually use the YF-23A Black Widow to take on Mobius. Then I QAAM his face. You can go head to head with the guy if you have a mobile enough plane. Spiral into him at an oblique deflection angle, launch QAAMs, and hope they hit. Not a foolproof strategy, but his XMAAs cannot track you while spiraling. Sometimes you'll hit him. I believe he takes four SP weapon hits to destroy.

@ Ribbon-Crimson: Also, how did you take out the YF-23A's AND Mobius?? You used the TLS, didn't you?

No... I actually used the XLAA's from my trusty F-15S/MTD I got the YF-23's before Mobius appears.. It's only seconds, but you fire them quickly then manuver or else Mobius will sneak out and flame you a$$...

Try the FAEB... whenever I play my brother, he always tricks me into flying low and then nails me... until I respawn and get him good...
