R-27 / AA-10 Alamo

ORIGIN: (Real World)
Russian Federation

GAMES FEATURED IN:
Ace Combat 05: The Unsung War
Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War
Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception
Ace Combat 06: Fires of Liberation

COMPATIBLE AIRCRAFT:
MiG-29A Fulcrum
Su-47 Berkut

OVERVIEW:
The R-27, AKA the AA-10 Alamo, is a Russian medium range missile deployed in the 1980s and became standardized in 1985. This missile is comparable to the AIM-7 Sparrow missile in the west.

This missile was the standard medium range missile for the MiG-29 and the Su-27 at the time. This missile can engage various types targets at long range or close range. It supports the intercept of targets moving from different directions against the background of the earth's and water's surface in any weather conditions.

The R-27R is equipped with a semi active radar homing head. The R-27R is equipped with an active radar proximity fuze and impact fuze and a continuous-rod warhead. It is guided to the target by a combination method according to the proportional navigation method: inferentially with radio correction of trajectory in the initial flight phase, and homing in the terminal phase. This provides for reliable target lock-on at long ranges from the launching aircraft. The missile can be guided along special trajectories to create favorable conditions for homing head and proximity fuze operation. It is capable of going around a plume of passive jamming, of being moved out of the main lobe of the platform's radar, and of approaching a low-flying target from above at a given angle.

The missile has a canard aerodynamic configuration with an axially symmetric cruciform arrangement of aerodynamic surfaces. Control surfaces of original (so-called "butterfly") configuration permit using the same surfaces both for missile yaw and pitch control as well as for its roll stabilization. Each of the four control surfaces has an independent hydraulic drive with a pump-accumulator system for supplying pressure fluid. Canard surfaces are mounted ahead of them. Changing their size ensures identical balance characteristics of the missile when the homing head is replaced.

This missile is gradually being phased out in Russia in favor of the more advanced R-77 Adder advanced BVR missile.

Wait, didn't the Su-47 use the Alamo in ACZ, ACX and AC6?

It was in AC5, too; carried by the Flanker-B and Firkin.

I know, but AC5 is represented, and not ACZ, ACX nor AC6.

Since the AA-12 is nicknamed the AMRAAMski, the AA-10 might as well be nicknamed the Sparrowski. XD tongue.gif laugh.gif

It says in the games featured in that it only appeared in AC5...

Didn't it appear in AC6 and ACZ also? I'm absolutely sure the Berkut uses these as SAAMs in AC6 since it's my choice of SAAMing, and as for the Fulcrum in ACZ, I'm quite sure it used this missile as its SAAMs.
