OVERVIEW:
The Megalith project was originally started in early 2004 as Erusea made preparations to finally wipe out the ISAF and continue to protect the USEA continent well after the war ended. The initial days and months of the project were spent on structural planning, rather than weapons systems.

However, when Stonehenge was destroyed the Megalith Project was put as top priority. The Erusian military scrambled to replace their super weapon and finish off ISAF HQ at North Point and the incoming ISAF Forces.

This would be possible by using Megalith’s capability to launch several ICBMs, which are made to intercept incoming Ulysses Fragments. That capability also means that it can launch ICBMs to any target anywhere on the planet, making it a lethal weapon.

Though production was rushed it was not fast enough. Megalith was only 91% complete when the ISAF had layed siege to and captured Farbanti, the Erusian capital city. The war was officially over.

However, many young Erusian Officers still loyal to the “Home Land” took over Megalith. Despite being out numbered and ‘out-gunned’, they continued fighting and prepared for a last stand at Megalith. The facility was brought online to full battle status and members of the courageous Yellow Squadron went to Megalith.

The ISAF attack came Seven days after the fall of the Erusian capital. On the same day a large group of Ulysses Asteroid fragments were going to pass close to the planet. Megalith was forced to engage the large pieces of this passing group.

The ISAF air strike was made by the newly formed "Mobius Squadron" and lead by ISAF ace pilot, Mobius One. It was intercepted by the full force of the new Yellow Squadron and a large aerial battle ensued.

During the battle an ISAF Special Operations team made it's way inside of Megalith, in an attempt to get into the main control room and open Megalith’s main silo doors, for an ISAF aircraft to destroy the missile in the main silo. They encountered heavy resistance.

When things looked bleak, the ISAF Fighters had finally broken through the Yellow Squadron. Mobius One flew into Megalith three times and destroyed the three sub-power generators, allowing the infiltration team to get into the Sub Control Room and open the main silo.

Mobius One then flew into the main silo and destroyed the main ICBM, the explosion disabled many of Megalith’s systems and damaged the mainframe. Megalith was not completely destroyed, but was successfully stopped from attack ISAF GHQ at North Point.

If you watch the birefing of the Megalith in Mission 18, it's range can cover the entire USEA continent all the way to the North Point, so it was considered a high threat by ISAF, and therefore, must be eliminated ASAP.

I don't get how this thing can be a threat to the ISAF.

This thing... it could probably be a missile silo to launch nukes at the ISAF bases throughout Usea.

That's a plausible theory. As well, the Megalith missiles could be ICBMs.

I noticed that Megalith lacked AA guns, ships, subs, tanks, etc.

Because it has a longer range than Stonehenge I think, and the missiles can be used as WMDs to wreak havoc across Usea. Check the image below

It sure is. But I wonder what would happen to the other, smaller 300 points missiles that launch before you can destroy the HUGE 990 points missile,

No. Probably the missiles could be just IRBMs, since even the Megalith can cover the entire Usea, but I'm not sure if the missiles can hit another continent.

And as for the comparison, here is the Stonehenge's radius (The white, dotted circle)
Posted Image

And the Megalith's radius
Posted Image

You can see that the Stonehenge can only cover the inner Usea, whereas the Megalith can cover the ENTIRE Usea all the way up to North Point. That's why it is considered a bigger threat by the ISAF. It is unknown whether it can hit the eastern Osea continent or not, because Osean continent was located west to Megalith

The link below could be an useful reference to Megalith's range. Even though that I am not sure if the map was accurately scaled or not.
http://electrosphere...r-high-res-map/

We can see that the Megalith was located in west Usea, not far from eastern Osea continent, or to be more exact, Eastern Nordland (S on the map). According to my rude calculation on the map with my fingers to find the westbound radius, I can decide that according to the world map there, it MIGHT be able to reach Osean Federation all the way to the inner Bannion Sea, not far from where the 5th mission of Ace Combat 5 takes place. Which means that Oured, Apito, Bana City, and all towns nearby can be affected by the Megalith.

This is just my plausible explanation. If you have anything to say, just say it.
