USTIAN AIR FORCE
ACZ - An Overview

Background:
The Ustian Air Force had a somewhat short life span. After their country was established they became an immediate target for Belka and were invaded during the Belkan War, in 1995 (Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War). Most of Ustio was overrun by Belka and the Ustian Air Force was almost completely wiped out. The Ustians turned to aerial mercenaries to defend the last free territories of the nation and eventually played a large role in the Belkan War's outcome.

Do we have any evidence of a pre-Belkan War Ustian Air Force? It seems to me like calling such a small concentration of aircraft an "Air Force". Considering that most friendlies in ACZ were Allies from Osea and surrounding countries, I say that the UAF was more a mercenary organization than a formal air force.

Most Afircan air forces are only a few dozen planes strong so it's safe to say that they were a formal air force.

I can't be too sure where I read it, but something mentioned that the Ustian Air Force had been decimated by some ninety percent. Most of its ranks were filled by mercenary pilots – even with a small force, if you consider the fact that there were at least six air divisions, ninety percent probably covers quite a few planes.

Bearing that in mind, I don't think the Sixth Air Division was the only mercenary division during the Belkan War.

Of course, I have no proof of this, just conjecture. I'm also not that clear on how large an actual air division is. It probably varies, but I'd assume there's quite a bit to it, given the numerical range of Belkan squadron designations. None of the ace squadrons appear in the same air division. Then again, like I said, I could be off by a mile. I'm really not clear on what the general size of an air division is. tongue.gif

I'll see if I can find anything useful. Hmmm. Japanese text on the official website might have some information on the Ustian numbers, under the background or world information...

I'm sorry, but I only handle Ace Combat signature requests!

Taking evidence from ingame accounts, the pre-1995 UAF was a small and inexperienced air force. The addition of foreign mercenary talent improved it afterward.

That does make sense. And one thing I forgot - Ustio hadn't really existed for that long before the Belkan War. I guess they didn't have the time or resources to build up militarily, which made them an easy target for invasion.

I only recall the KC-10... When did they have B-52's and C-17's.... IIRC they were from the Oseans.. The UAF Wasn't bigg enough to have a sunstantial bomber force.

First off, watch the cutscene in mission 8, the C-17s have Ustian AF roundels on them. Second, get a very close look on the left wing of the B-52 that appears in front of you during the beginning of mission 11, it too also has a Ustian AF roundel on it.

Maybe it was some kind of Lend-Lease Act thing. Maybe Osea lent them to Ustio to resist Belkan expansion.

The manual and some in-game information states that the 6th Air Division, which includes all of their mercenaries, was created during the Belkan War to supplement Ustio's existing, small air force.

Updated the format and added some information regarding the UAF 6th Air Division.

Added links to the ACZ site in the source section.
