ANTLION
- Walking battle tanks -

Games featured In:
Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere

Operators:
General Resource LTD.

Background:
These are 4-legged walking tanks designed by General Resource. They were designed as a way to reduce casualties in a para-drop operations, by having light tanks being dropped instead of soldiers. They could also be used like a regular tank, although they were rarely used for that purpose. They were not fielded often, as they could not stand up to the power of many main battle tanks. The largest use of them was in General Resource's operation to attack the Riass Space Center in the Comona Islands, and disrupt the rocket launch. During this operation, they came under heavy fire from Neucom defenses and air support from the UPEO. While they were able to deal much damage to the facilities, they were unable to prevent the launch.

Well there were vehicles labelled Tanks in Conspiracy and Pathfinder, but they were actually SAMs. :\

In the pic, is the tank's legs retracted? All this time playing, and I could never figure that out. When they're on land, I don't think the game had enough to animate legs...

Thought ES2.0 and the ACW could do with some better pics of the Antlions so here they are feel free to use the images where ever.
As far as I can tell the tanks have no known weapons.

I decided to take an image with my Cel-Shaded version of AC3 to see what the antlion looked like.

Posted Image
This is the only vehicle wreckage that stays after death in AC3 as far as I know.

Posted Image
And contrary to popular belief the antlions "legs" do actually have an animation but a poor one at that, its more of a "penguin waddle".

I'll be uploading some on the Ace Combat Wiki when I can.

Wow, I'm amazed by the details we could explain from your pics, Snow. Especially the legs animation.

Maybe the red dots there are it's weapon bays? Maybe something like laser point cannons or all-aspect guns.

Them red dots is the Land COFFIN sensors/cameras. Maybe the pilot just does a drive-by with an Uzi or somethink.
