Sky Shadow ECM pod

ORIGIN: (Real World)
United States of America

GAMES FEATURED IN:
Ace Combat 05: The Unsung War
Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War
Ace Combat 06: Fires of Liberation

COMPATIBLE AIRCRAFT
Tornado ECR, Tornado GR.4

OVERVIEW:
The ARI 23246/1 Sky Shadow incorporates both active and passive electronic warfare systems, an integral transmitter/receiver, a processor, and a cooling system. Along with BOZ-107, Sky Shadow is operated as electronic counter-measure equipment by Royal Air Force. This pod is only fitted to any Tornadoes wing pylons. It was designed and developed on 1980s by Marconi Electronic Systems, which in 1999 merged with BAe (British Aerospace) to form BAE Systems.

Its main purpose is as jamming or deception pod. Used to defeat hostile radar, the Sky Shadow is carried on the wing of the Tornado as the Tornado has no internally mounted Jamming devices. The jammer will confuse all radar so that the fighter can not be detected or locked onto with radar guided weapons. This does not give away the position of the fighter but it does let the enemy know that they are there. The only way that it can be defeated is with ECCM (Electronic Counter-Counter Measures), if the ECCM operator gets a higher Sensory Instruments percentage roll against the ECM operator. It effectively works in range of 30 miles away. It uses frequency between H to J Band for its sensor type.
