Plasma Beam

Plasma Beam in Flight

ORIGIN: (Real World)
----

GAMES FEATURED IN:
Ace Combat 03: Electrosphere

COMPATIBLE AIRCRAFT
R-352 Sepia

OVERVIEW:
Plasmas are typically defined as an ionized gas, ionization is done by energizing a gas with a certain amount of energy. Lightning is one of the most common plasmas and hints at plasma's destructive ability.

For the plasma beam, what Neucom engineers did was to take advantage of one type of lightning known as "ball lightning". Ball lightning has been known to hover, move slowly, follow aircraft/moving objects etc. With the advanced technology available in the 2040's the engineers have somehow managed to control the way that this ball of plasma moves and thus enable it to seek a target. When the target is hit, the damage is usually caused by the energy (heat or electricity) contained within the plasma ball itself which heats the material to a high enough level to allow vaporization.

One of the major reasons why this weapon would not be suitable for use in the atmosphere is the hardware to launch the weapon is quite heavy. Also plasmas suffer from dissipation in the atmosphere due to the air around it, so it is best suited for use in the vacuum of space.

SPECIFICATIONS
Power: 50%
Reload speed: 50%
Accuracy: 80%
Type: Energy

Ah, fun weapon to use. Too bad you only get to use it once in the game though.

Yeah, I agree. Why would Neucom bother putting missiles aboard the Sepia when they just could have put more laser goodness?

A lil tidbit of juicy info that I think might be useful.

NAMCO skimped on the models and are using a missile instead, the plasma ball is just the missiles trail to make it look like a plasma ball.

Yeah, that was what I was thinking, that the missile was plasma powered and had a plasma warhead but I remembered that the weapon type is energy so I guess we'll have to take NAMCO's word that it is indeed an energy weapon.

It's a video game, so the rules of reality can be bent a bit. I mean, who doesn't want to fly a plane in outer space?!

Namco can cut corners and they did that with AC3. With the export version anyway.
As much as we hated it though...

Here is a side shot of the Plasma Beam... See the missile shell? Just ignore the XFA-36A Game (which is in space...) for a sec, just look at the missile!

Thanks to the magic of fiberoptics and time travel, I will be coming to cities (possibly) near you...
