AAM-5 Short Range Air-to-Air Missile

ORIGIN: (Real World)
Japan

GAMES FEATURED IN:
Ace Combat 06: Fires of Liberation

COMPATIBLE AIRCRAFT
F-2A Viper Zero

OVERVIEW:
AAM-5 is new short-range IR-guided AAM development to replace AAM-3 and AIM-9.

In Japan the Technical Research and Development Institute of the Japan Defense Agency has teamed with Mitsubishi to develop the AAM-5 agile dogfight missile. This is an advanced weapon that on first glance shares many similarities with the IRIS-T. Captive carriage tests and ground-launched firings have been conducted, but the operational status of the AAM-5 is unclear. The missile is not thought to be in Japanese Air Self-Defence Force service and has not yet been issued a Type designation like the AAM-4/Type 99. Japan is intensely secretive about all of its military technology and virtually no public data has been released on the AAM-4 or AAM-5.

To effectively deal with the future air threats in the early next century, the XAAM-5 Short Range Air-to-Air Missile IR homing dog-fighting missile will give extended lock-on range, improved off bore-sight, and enhanced IRCCM capabilities.

QUOTE (Translated)
With short range which was developed as the succession of AAM-3 AAM, it was developed from around 1991, was formally converted in 2004. Soviet R-73 the short range AAM surpasses Sidewinder and the like because it had the efficiency which is superior, west side each country the next generation to come to the point of with making the short range AAM, it came to the point of with Japan developing this missile. The infrared ray picture induction which adopts the multi element seekers of infrared ray focal plainness array is adopted by induction, it has the tolerance where temperature inspection ability increases capture distance high than past, is high even in the disturbance by the flare. スラストヴェクタリング (thrust modification) is adopted by the nozzle, because angle of visibility and oscillation angle of the seeker to be large it has improved by combining with steering by the tail assembly with very high mobility, also off-bore sight ability is high, locks turns on goal of immediate side almost with the combination with the helmet installing type aiming mechanism and says that it is possible to attack. Furthermore, because the inertia guidance unit due to the ring laser gyro is loaded bullet range the present lock on after the discharging that (LOAL)"it discharges from outside the capture range of the seeker and it operates the seeker at the place where it got near to goal", by becoming possible short range AAM 3? You say that it reached 5 times.

I found this in one of AC6 ACES's screenshots, the one carried by F-2.

That IS a QAAM. It has the capability to lock from any position and that missile has also 3d thrust vectoring, like the R-73M or the AIM-9X.
